It looks like a legitimate account with the Amazon Prime program was hacked, and now the company is trying to track down who did it.
According to NBC Sports’ Adrian Dater, the account was hacked from an Amazon user account on June 9, when a fake account was created using the same credentials.
Amazon’s account was not used to send spam.
It’s not clear what was behind the hack, but it appears to be the same group that posted a fake news article about the NHL’s season opener on Wednesday, with a photo of a woman on the back of a sports jersey.
The fake article included an image of a man wearing a cap and sunglasses, the word “nitro” in large letters on top of a “C” and “L” logo, and the phrase “the New York Rangers will not lose.”
Amazon said it is investigating the incident.
